Tibetan Singing Bowls for Meditation

When choosing a singing bowl for meditation, your own personal preferences are paramount. Some factors to consider include the size and weight of the bowl, the sound it produces, and the materials it is made of.  In essence, if the sound or size of the bowl is uncomfortable, it won't be a good partner in meditation.

Choosing the size of bowl...

Do you plan to hold the bowl in your hand as you meditate? If so, make sure to choose a smaller bowl that is easy to handle and does not distract from your focus and practice.  DharmaShop has our bowls measurements listed and can be organized by size.

If you prefer the bowl to sit at your side as you meditate, and you're not using it constantly, you can put sound preference ahead of size.  DharmaShop has sound samples for every singing bowl to make sure your comfortable with the tone.

Choosing the sound of your bowl...

When thinking of a bowl for meditation, I immediately think of a bowl with a smooth, very low, resonating tone.  That is because it's my preference when it comes to the sound of our singing bowls.  You want to find a bowl whose sound brings you what you're looking for out of meditation.  Maybe a higher clean and sparkly tone perks you up, or starts each session off strong.  Or maybe a lower tone brings that calm throughout your practice.  Some of our customers make sure they even have one of each depending on their intention for that day.
