Jambhala or Zambala is a god of wealth whose blessings remove the obstacle of poverty, bringing wealth and abundance to pure Dharma practitioners. As it is difficult to attain spiritual realizations while afflicted by a lack of resources, Jambhala generates prosperity so that practitioners have the time, energy, and means to accomplish it. According to the Sutras, while Shakyamuni Buddha was teaching one day, demons tried to disturb and confuse the Buddha. Jambhala appeared in front of the Buddha and protected him. Recognizing Jambhala’s courageous action, the Buddha asked Jambhala if he would like to become a Dharma Protector in order to help all sentient beings. Jambhala accepted the Buddha’s offer, and since then he has offered immediate assistance to all who call his name or chant his mantra. His blessings bestow good luck, increase virtues, prolong life, increase intelligence, and provide both material and spiritual benefits.
GESTURES AND ATTRIBUTES
There are five Jambhalas – yellow, white, black, green, and red – of which yellow is the most common form. Each form has its own special significance and attributes. Yellow Jambhala is depicted adorned with a crown, silk garments, and beautiful gold and jeweled ornaments. He is seated imperially upon a throne, with a Bijapuraka (citron) fruit in his right hand and a mongoose in his left hand. The mongoose constantly spews forth precious jewels and treasures and represents Jambhala’s victory over the Nagas.
White Zamabala
White Dzambhala is born from the right eye of Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva, also known as the manifestation of Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva. According to the sutra, his mantra can stop suffering, destroy bad karma and have bodhicitta or mind. His mantra can also avert disaster and sickness. He also brings wealth to all sentient beings by chanting his mantra. Tibetan name is "Dzambhala Gapee " which means, white dzambhala . White Jambhala sits on a snow lion, although some artists depict him sitting on a dragon and in his left hand, there is also a mongoose that spits out precious diamonds and ornaments.
Black Zambala or Kuber
Black Kubera is the manifistation of Buddha Akshobhaya . Black Kubera is also called as the chief of the five great Jambhalas as he is said to have given people wealth and happiness. He is also known as one of the Hindu gods of wealth, Kubera. Those who chant his mantra will get wealth and also if one has any kind of wishes, he will also fulfill them and bring happiness. Black Jambala has two mantras. Black Jambala Usually Stands upon the corpse and holds Mongoose in his left hand and Kapala in his right hand. he is Black in color.
Red Zamabala
RED JAMBHALARed Jambhala is the manifisation of Vajrasattva . He has two faces and four arms and holds a treasury mongoose in his left hand. Tibetan name for him is “Dzambhala Mapo " If one chants his mantra sincerely, one will be protected by him and also gain wealth and one can lead a very good life and become popular. Red Ganpati is also worshiped as Red Jambhala.
Green Zamabala
Green Jambhala is the manifestation of Amoghasiddhi Buddha, who is Green in color. Green Dzambhala made a vow in front of Buddha Sakyamuni that he will protect anyone who chants his mantra or chant his name. When one has difficulties, it is best to chant sincerely in one's heart the mantra. This practice will enable all endeavors to be perfectly accomplished and purify all bad luck and obstacles, preventing theft, bad debts, and loss of wealth.
