Buddha Amitayus, also known as Aparmita, is the name of Buddha Amitabha in his aspect as the Bestower of Longevity. He can be regarded as either a celestial Buddha or a fully realized Bodhisattva, having attained Buddhahood many eons ago through the infinite merit he accumulated over countless past lives as a Bodhisattva. According to the Larger Sutra of Immeasurable Life, Aparmita created a pure heavenly realm through the power of his virtuous deeds. He now dwells in this realm with his numerous divine disciples, enjoying endless and boundless life. He promises that if any faithful man or woman calls upon him at the moment of death, he will appear, accompanied by a multitude of blessed sages, to guide the dying person to his Pure Land, where they will live in the light of the Dharma, free from suffering and death.

Aparmita, also known as Amitayus or Tsepame, sits in perfect equanimity with his hands in Dhyana Mudra, the gesture of meditation. His palms are turned face up in his lap, holding a treasure vase filled with ambrosia, which is his unique emblem. His right hand, resting on top, symbolizes enlightenment, while his left hand, resting below, represents the world of appearances.
