The striking statue of Kshitigarbha, also known as Kshiti Garbha, honors the bodhisattva who is committed to easing the suffering of sentient beings in the six realms of existence. The "Earth Store Bodhisattva," also known as Kshitigarbha, personifies the qualities of perseverance, dedication, and compassion. Chinese and Japanese Buddhists highly respect and worship Kshitigarbha, one of the most well-known bodhisattvas. He is also referred to as Ti Tsang P'usa. The name "Kshitigarbha" means "Earth Treasury," "Earth Store," "Earth Matrix," or "Earth Womb." The Great Vow of Bodhisattva Kshitigarbha was to aid and rescue all creatures. He is typically depicted as a Buddhist monk with a shaved head, modest clothing, and a staff.
